Shift Leadership & Workflow Management
- Coordinate and assign daily tasks to production operators to ensure production schedules, daily quotas, and on-time delivery targets are met.
- Facilitate smooth transitions between shifts by communicating production status, equipment issues, scrap rates, and priorities to incoming/outgoing leads and supervisors.
- Onboard new operators, conduct cross-training across multiple machine zones, and mentor staff on standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices.
- Monitor workflow bottlenecks and reallocate personnel or materials as needed to maintain a continuous and efficient production flow.
Technical Troubleshooting & Machine Setup
- Perform complex machine setups, changeovers, and process adjustments that exceed the scope of standard production operators.
- Diagnose and resolve equipment faults, process interruptions, or material issues to minimize machine downtime.
- Perform minor preventative maintenance and escalate major mechanical or electrical issues to the Maintenance or Engineering departments with clear, detailed diagnostic information.
Quality Assurance & Process Control
- Approve machine setups and perform first-piece inspections before full production runs begin.
- Monitor in-process quality, ensuring operators are accurately using measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.) and adhering to customer specifications.
- Identify root causes of non-conforming materials or high scrap rates, initiate rework processes, and quarantine defective parts according to quality control standards.
Safety, Compliance & EHS
- Enforce all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies on the floor, ensuring 100% compliance with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and chemical handling procedures.
- Act as the first point of contact for workplace injuries, near misses, or safety hazards. Secure the area and immediately report issues to EHS and plant management.
Continuous Improvement & 6S
- Actively identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve cycle times, and increase overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Lead by example and enforce 6S methodology (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) to maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free production floor.
- Maintain accurate production logs, yield reports, and scrap documentation in the manufacturing execution system (MES) or ERP system.
