About the role

The Maintenance Mechanic performs duties involving carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, welding and other general mechanical skills associated with the repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment. Work is performed in and around buildings and grounds owned or leased by the College. The position also includes duties involving snow removal and grounds maintenance using a variety of equipment and manual labor in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Performs carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, welding and other general mechanical tasks to maintain and repair facilities and equipment.
  • Responsible for snow removal and grounds maintenance using various equipment and manual labor.
  • Works during emergency situations when the campus might otherwise be closed.
  • Works day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts.
  • Reports to the Manager of Facility Maintenance.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s license.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Five (5) years of work experience in a building maintenance environment as a commercial/industrial maintenance mechanic or a completed vocational or apprenticeship program.
  • Knowledge of all types of tools in the trade.
  • Ability to read and follow detailed work and safety instructions.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Skills in keyboarding, basic math and grammar, and basic or standard word processing (MS Word).
  • Proficiency with an email software package (MS Outlook) and the internet.
  • Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population.
  • Ability to occasionally sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste and smell.
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, use hands or feet, reach with hand and arms, and talk and hear.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Color vision.
  • Ability to occasionally work in wet or humid conditions, work in high precarious places, work with fumes, and airborne particles, toxics or caustics chemicals, work in extreme cold and heat (non-weather) and work with risk of electric shock, vibration and bio-hazards.
  • Ability to regularly work near moving mechanical parts and in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in an environment with a loud noise level.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in a job-related field preferred.
  • Ability to direct a small work crew preferred.
  • Experience with electronic work order system preferred.
  • Trade license or certification preferred.
  • LTO (Lift-Truck-Operator) license preferred.
