2nd Shift Diesel Mechanic

About the Role

Waste Connections is hiring a Diesel Mechanic to join the team in Justin, Texas. The position is on the 2nd shift, working 2:00 PM to 2:00 AM Monday through Friday, with consistent 50–60 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on engines, chassis, body components, hydraulic cylinders, brake systems, suspension systems, cooling systems, wheels and tires.
• Inspect equipment and trucks for condition, operation, parts and fluid levels, including differentials, final drives, pump drives, and hubs.
• Repair hydraulic systems (knowledge required).
• Utilize vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes and initiate or assign repairs.
• Conduct safety checks on vehicles and equipment.
• Complete required paperwork using fleet maintenance software, documenting parts usage and repair times.
• Review, complete, or assign repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
• Perform maintenance‑related work as required.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards.
• Follow required safety protocols while working on vehicles.
• Communicate needed repairs or tasks effectively.
• Engage in extensive physical activity, including heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling objects over 50 pounds.
• Work indoors in a shop or outdoors on the road, often in well‑lit, ventilated, or tight positions, handling greasy or dirty tools while following basic safety precautions.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 + years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities listed.
• Must provide own personal tools.
• Welding/fabrication experience is a huge plus.
• ASE certifications preferred but not required.
