About the Role

The Assistant Manager is responsible for executing all operational, merchandising, and managerial functions within the store during their assigned shift. In the absence of the Store Manager, the Assistant Manager serves as the manager-on-duty, overseeing daily operations and supervising Sales Associates.

Responsibilities

  • Driving Sales
    • Drive sales to achieve and exceed financial goals.
    • Assist the Store Manager in evaluating business performance and taking proactive steps to improve results.
    • Help set and monitor store goals (individual, daily, weekly).
    • Assist in managing store expenses and ensuring all funds and merchandise are handled according to Company policy.
    • Maintain accountability for store operations, associate development, and financial contribution.
    • Assist with scheduling at least one grassroots event per quarter.
    • Effectively manage merchandise and market externally to build business.
  • Marketing Initiatives
    • Utilize social media to drive traffic to stores for events, recruiting, and sales generation.
    • Assist the Store Manager with scheduling a minimum of one grassroots event per quarter.
    • Drive PLCC (Private Label Credit Card) and email capture initiatives.
    • Build relationships with the community, churches, and retailers.
  • Customer Experience
    • Provide an exceptional customer service experience to all customers.
    • Properly zone the store for optimal selling and customer experience.
    • Serve as a product knowledge expert to educate customers and Associates.
    • Hold all Associates accountable for product knowledge, including features and benefits.
    • Model and uphold Company values; ensure all Associates do the same.
    • Assist the Store Manager in developing staff to ensure exceptional customer service.
  • Operations
    • Partner with the Store Manager on all store matters.
    • Maintain the highest standards in store operations in accordance with the Policy and Procedures manual.
    • Assist in creating and revising the store schedule to align with selling expenses and productivity.
    • Ensure store neatness, maintenance, and cleanliness with the help of store Associates.
    • Execute merchandise displays and visuals to enhance the brand.
    • Assist in placing supply orders and monitoring inventory levels.
    • Communicate with the Store Manager and District Manager on operational issues.
  • Team Development
    • Assist in recruiting candidates for store positions.
    • Recommend top candidates to the Store Manager.
    • Assist in training and coaching staff to ensure bench strength, career paths, and succession planning.
    • Conduct "Take 5" meetings to update Associates on daily Company and store communications.
    • Hold Associates accountable to Ashley Stewart’s policies and procedures through coaching, feedback, and counseling.
    • Effectively manage time for self and Associates.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2–3 years of prior retail experience; 1 year of prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to apply retail math principles.
  • Excellent computer skills and ability to use a POS system.
  • High level of initiative and accountability.
  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple initiatives.
  • Detail-oriented; consistently meets deadlines.

Essential Work Requirements

  • Ability to lift 30 lbs, push, pull, bend, and stretch frequently.
  • Stand for periods of 8–10 hours a day.
  • Use ladders or other equipment for store and merchandising maintenance.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including some holidays, most weekends, and/or late evenings.
  • Minimal travel may be required (e.g., district meetings, banking duties).
