About the role
Creates a developmentally appropriate pre-kindergarten program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth while establishing effective rapport with students, families, staff members, and outside community agencies. Motivates students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a strong foundation for elementary school success.
Responsibilities
- Plans and evaluates daily classroom activities to ensure they are developmentally appropriate and reflect the diversity and culture of the class under the direction of an appropriately certified Special Education Preschool Teacher.
- Supports and develops plans related to goals set for individual children.
- Communicates effectively with pre-kindergarten children ages 3–5 and adults from a variety of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Maintains ongoing communication (written and verbal) with parents/guardians.
- Identifies student needs, makes appropriate referrals, and develops strategies for individual education plans under Arizona Child Find Tracking requirements.
- Maintains all aspects and provisions of confidentiality related to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Works with district specialists as appropriate.
- Attends required preschool workshops, trainings, and meetings mandated by the Arizona Department of Health Services and the District.
- Sets student goals and monitors and evaluates student progress using district-recommended techniques.
- Establishes and maintains good rapport with students, employees, community members, and vendors.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older and provide documentation of one of the following:
- Three years of child care experience and a high school diploma or equivalency diploma; or
- One year of child care experience and at least 12 credit hours from an accredited college or university, including at least six credit hours in early childhood, child development, or a closely-related field; or
- An associate or bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood, child development, or a closely-related field; or
- National Administrator Credential (N.A.C.), Child Development Associate (C.D.A.), or Child Care Professional (C.C.P.) credential.
- Obtain and maintain the following certifications/clearances:
- First Aid/CPR certification from an accredited agency (in-person certification required; online training is not acceptable).
- Negative Mantoux TB Skin Test administered within 12 months of hire date or a healthcare provider’s written statement confirming freedom from infectious active TB issued within 6 months of hire date.
- Valid Food Handler’s card.
- Valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).

Ada and Physical Requirements
- Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
- Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Work is routinely performed in an indoor, school environment, although outside work is sometimes required.
