About the role

To help provide for and ensure the security and protection of all students and staff while crossing streets.

Responsibilities

  • Assist children in crossing streets on the way to and from school at assigned times and locations.
  • Attempt to cross all pedestrians, including non-students, as required by law.
  • Interact with children, staff, and community members on a positive basis.
  • Place and remove speed signs; report maintenance needs when required.
  • Learn and follow state law and adopted procedures regarding the operation of school crossings.
  • Protect the safety of children at all times while on duty.
  • Report student safety infractions and license numbers of vehicles violating safety regulations.
  • Monitor and report infractions of state laws regarding school zones.
  • Have and maintain district-supplied equipment.
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members, and vendors.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Maintain reasonable awareness of pedestrian, vehicular, and other traffic in all directions.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).

Physical demands

  • Positions in this class require: pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 17 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Requires regular holding of a stop paddle at or above shoulder level when crossing pedestrians.

Working conditions

  • Work is routinely performed in an outdoor environment, including exposure to noise and being on your feet.
  • Requires maintaining reasonable awareness of pedestrian, vehicular, and other traffic in all directions.
  • Requires standing in inclement weather, including summer heat.
