About the role
To help provide for and ensure the security and protection of all students and staff while crossing streets.
Responsibilities
- Assist children in crossing streets on the way to and from school at assigned times and locations.
- Attempt to cross all pedestrians, including non-students, as required by law.
- Interact with children, staff, and community members on a positive basis.
- Place and remove speed signs; report maintenance needs when required.
- Learn and follow state law and adopted procedures regarding the operation of school crossings.
- Protect the safety of children at all times while on duty.
- Report student safety infractions and license numbers of vehicles violating safety regulations.
- Monitor and report infractions of state laws regarding school zones.
- Have and maintain district-supplied equipment.
- Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members, and vendors.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
- Maintain reasonable awareness of pedestrian, vehicular, and other traffic in all directions.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).

Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- Positions in this class require: pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
- Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 17 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Requires regular holding of a stop paddle at or above shoulder level when crossing pedestrians.
- Work is routinely performed in an outdoor environment, including exposure to noise and standing for extended periods.
- Required to maintain reasonable awareness of pedestrian, vehicular, and other traffic in all directions.
- Requires standing in inclement weather, including summer heat.
