About the Role

The department seeks qualified candidate(s) to teach undergraduate courses such as Introductory Viticulture, General Viticulture, Grape Pest and Disease Management, Table Grape and Raisin Production, Organic Viticulture, Digital Viticulture, or other classes identified to fulfill educational goals.

Temporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to university and system-wide policies, preparation, delivery, conducting, proctoring, and grading lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester in the assigned mode (asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid).

This is a pool of part-time lecturers for the department to draw on as needed. Appointments are contingent upon budget, enrollment considerations, and the collective bargaining agreement's "Order of Work" provisions. Positions vary by semester and are often filled just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants may need to begin teaching on short notice.

The pool remains in place for two academic terms; those interested in remaining beyond that time must reapply.

Anticipated semesters for appointments:

  • Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026
  • Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in Viticulture or Plant Science with an emphasis in Grape Production or a closely related field (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent).
  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Commitment to and potential for teaching excellence.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior teaching experience at the undergraduate level, with evidence of teaching excellence (e.g., teaching evaluations).
  • Experience in grape production, including wine, table, and/or raisin grape production.
  • Experience in organic grape production, grape pests and diseases, and digital viticulture.
  • Experience with post-harvest aspects of viticulture.
  • Ability to operate and demonstrate vineyard equipment.
  • Knowledge of preparing students for careers in the wine, table, and raisin grape industry.

Pay

The salary range for Temporary Faculty with a Master's degree is $5,507–$6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries are usually at or near the minimum of the range. Actual monthly salary is adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per academic term.
