26-27 AY Temporary Faculty Pool (Lecturer) - Spanish (MCLL)
California State University, Fresno’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures seeks temporary lecturers to teach undergraduate Spanish courses. The department values language study as a means to develop oral and written communication, cultural understanding, interdisciplinary connections, and global participation.
About the role
The successful applicant will teach one or more of the following courses, depending on departmental need and enrollment:
- Spanish 1A, 1B
- Spanish 2A, 2B
- Spanish 3
- Spanish 4A, 4B
- Other undergraduate Spanish classes identified to meet student demand
Temporary faculty are responsible for preparing and delivering lectures, holding office hours, assigning and grading homework, quizzes, projects, and exams, and ensuring classes meet as scheduled in the assigned mode (asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid). Appointment is contingent on budget, enrollment, and collective-bargaining provisions.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to and implement university and system-wide academic policies
- Prepare, deliver, conduct, proctor, and grade lectures, assignments, quizzes, projects, and exams
- Maintain scheduled class meetings in the assigned instructional mode throughout the semester
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Spanish or a closely related field from an accredited institution (or foreign equivalent)
- Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications
- Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, evidenced by prior teaching experience, evaluations, or other documentation
- Successful prior teaching experience at the undergraduate level
- Professional experience as a Spanish translator
Schedule
The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, with appointments made as needed based on student enrollment and funding. Positions are part-time, temporary, and often filled just prior to the start of the term. Applicants may need to begin teaching on short notice. The pool remains active for two academic terms; reapplication is required to remain in the pool beyond that period.
- Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026
- Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027
Pay
Monthly salary is determined by qualifications and experience within the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code 2358). For full-time teaching (15 WTUs), the salary range is $5,507–$6,677 per month for candidates with a Master’s degree. Starting salaries are typically at or near the minimum of the range. Actual pay is adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per term.
