About the Department

The Department of Recreation Administration provides five option areas with a BS in Recreation Administration, including community and youth, special events and tourism, outdoor recreation, recreation therapy, and sport and entertainment facility management. The department is committed to community engagement and is one of seven departments in the College of Health and Human Services, recognized as one of the best programs in the state.

About the Role

The successful applicant may teach undergraduate courses in recreation, tourism, outdoor recreation, special events, and sport and entertainment facility management. Specific courses may include:

  • RA 117 (Special Events and Tourism)
  • RA 131 (Foundations of Special Events and Tourism)
  • Other courses identified to fulfill educational goals

Temporary faculty are responsible for preparing, delivering, and grading lectures, assignments, quizzes, projects, and exams, as well as holding office hours. All classes must meet as scheduled (asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid) for the entire semester.

This is a pool of part-time lecturers; appointments are contingent upon budget, enrollment, and order-of-assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement. Positions are temporary and may begin on short notice.

Schedule

  • Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026
  • Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027

The pool remains open for two academic terms; reapplication is required for continued consideration.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Recreation and Parks Administration or a closely related field (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent).
  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A PhD/EdD in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism.
  • Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, evidenced by prior teaching experience and evaluations.
  • Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.

Pay

The salary range for Temporary Faculty with a Master’s degree is $5,507–$6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries are typically at or near the minimum. Actual pay is adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per term.
