California State University, Fresno invites applications for a pool of part-time lecturers in the Department of Liberal Studies. Positions are filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding, with appointments often made just prior to the start of the academic term.

About the Role

The department seeks qualified candidates to teach undergraduate courses such as those listed in the course catalog or other classes identified to fulfill educational goals. Temporary faculty members are responsible for adhering to university and system-wide policies, preparing and delivering course content, conducting office hours, grading assignments and exams, and ensuring classes meet as scheduled in the assigned mode (asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid).

Appointments are contingent upon budget, enrollment, and order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement. Candidates must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States; the university does not sponsor temporary faculty for work visas.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, deliver, and proctor lectures, assignments, quizzes, projects, and exams.
  • Hold office hours and provide student support.
  • Grade coursework and assessments as appropriate.
  • Ensure classes meet as scheduled throughout the semester in the assigned mode.
  • Adhere to university and system-wide academic policies.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A Master’s degree in Education, Teaching, Learning, & Curriculum with an emphasis in P-12 Education or a closely related field (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent).
  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level or in K-12 schools.

Preferred:

  • Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, evidenced by prior teaching experiences, evaluations, or other documentation.
  • Successful teaching experience specifically at the undergraduate level.

Pay

Compensation is based on qualifications and experience within the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code 2358 for Academic Year Lecturers). The salary range for temporary faculty with a Master’s degree is $5,507–$6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries are typically at or near the minimum of the range. Actual monthly salary is adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per academic term.

Schedule

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, with positions filled as needed. Appointments are part-time and temporary, often made on short notice prior to the start of the academic term. The pool remains active for two academic terms; candidates interested in remaining in the pool beyond that time must reapply.

  • Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026
  • Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027
