Essential Job Functions
- Has a thorough knowledge of all athletic policies and implements them.
- Understands the administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels.
- Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances, and works to increase morale and cooperation.
- Schedules, provides transportation, and ensures requirements for tournament and special sport events.
- Coordinates program with maintenance and school employees.
- Provides documentation for physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
- Ensures proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment.
- Advises the athletic director and recommends policy, method, or procedural changes.
- Monitors equipment rooms and coaches' offices, authorizes who may enter, issue, or requisition equipment.
- Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games, ensuring general cleanliness.
- Performs routine maintenance on specific sport equipment.
- Secures the building before leaving if custodians are not on duty.
- Instills respect for equipment and school property among athletes.
- Organizes preseason meetings and promotes the sport within and outside the school.
- Presents information to news media concerning schedules, tournaments, and results.

Scope and Impact
- Positions accomplish most tasks through standard procedure, exercising independent judgment when necessary.
- Internal contacts include students, District office staff, District administrators, teachers, and classified staff.
- External contacts may include parents, community members, School Board members, and any other business or school related entities.
Knowledge & Skill Requirements
- Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program with previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport.
- Previous head coaching experience preferred but not required.
- Clearances must be provided upon hire and updated every five years in accordance with Act 153: PA State Police- Act 34, Child Abuse-Act 151, and FBI Fingerprint-Act 114.
- Child Abuse training (or proof of completion) in accordance with Act 126 upon hire and repeated every five years thereafter.
- A negative TB test is required upon hire if not already on file with the District.
- Employee must be able to accomplish the performance responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation.
Supervision Received and Exercised
- This position is directly responsible to the Athletic Director.
- The head coach advises, coordinates, and supports assistant coaches and volunteer coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal.
