Essential Job Functions

• Has a thorough knowledge of all athletic policies and implements them.
• Understands the administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels.
• Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances, and works to increase morale and cooperation.
• Schedules, provides transportation, and handles requirements for tournament and special sport events.
• Prepares for and adheres to scheduled sport events or practices, and coordinates with maintenance and school employees.
• Provides documentation for physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
• Ensures proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment.
• Advises the athletic director and recommends policy, method, or procedural changes.
• Mentors each athlete to develop character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
• Monitors athletes' grades and conduct, and assists in college or advanced educational selection.
• Participates in budgeting and equipment recommendations, and is accountable for all equipment.
• Organizes preseason meetings and promotes the sport within and outside the school.
• Attends booster club meetings and maintains good public relations with various stakeholders.

Scope and Impact

• Positions accomplish most tasks through standard procedure, exercising independent judgment when necessary.
• Internal contacts include students, District office staff, District administrators, teachers, and classified staff.
• External contacts may include parents, community members, School Board members, and any other business or school related entities.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements

• Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program with previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport.
• Previous head coaching experience preferred but not required.
• Clearances: PA State Police- Act 34, Child Abuse-Act 151, FBI Fingerprint-Act 114, Child Abuse training (or proof of completion) in accordance with Act 126.
• Negative TB test is required upon hire if not already on file with the District.

Supervision Received and Exercised

• This position is directly responsible to the Athletic Director.
• The head coach advises, coordinates, and supports assistant coaches and volunteer coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal.
