2026-27 Head Coach - Girls Wrestling - Middle School

About the role

The position involves overseeing the growth and development of student athletes, focusing on fundamental skills instruction and whole child development. It includes adhering to WIAA rules and regulations, promoting the sport, organizing practices, ensuring safety, and maintaining a positive coaching style.

Responsibilities

• Keep current with sport-specific literature and attend clinics/workshops.
• Study and understand WIAA, FWPSS, and league rules and regulations.
• Promote the sport within the school and encourage participation.
• Hold daily practices and ensure absence is for illness or emergencies only.
• Provide safety training and maintain records of safety-related instruction.
• Exercise good judgment and project positive coaching behaviors.
• Serve as an example of sportsmanship and ethical behavior.
• Attend and present rules/regulations to participants, ensure eligibility process completion, and report accidents/injuries.
• Monitor and report on the condition of playing facilities and equipment.
• Develop/care for program cuts and awards criteria.
• Prepare and submit an annual budget request and coordinate fundraising activities.
• Attend evaluation meetings and present program inventory.
• Meet with assistant coach to develop program goals and ensure consistent instruction.
• Coordinate repairs, storage, cleaning, and laundering of equipment.
• Manage program equipment/supplies inventory and submit annual inventory.

Requirements

• At least 19 years old for assistant coaching positions, 21 years old for head coaching positions.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of sport-specific playing/coaching experience in a secondary/post-secondary athletics program or related club coaching experience.
• Proven training and experience in drills, safety factors, and skill application.
• Three or more years of paid middle school/post-secondary sport-specific coaching experience and/or related club coaching experience.
• Completion of the National Federation Coaching Fundamentals Course and passing the test.
• Criminal background clearance.
• First Aid and CPR certification (hands-on training).
• Online Concussion Training (CT).
