#215.1 - Continuing, Full-Time (1.00 FTE) - First Nations Language and Culture Teacher

Coast Mountains School District 82 is located in northwest British Columbia and encompasses the traditional territories of the Gitxsan, Haisla, Nisga’a, and Tsimshian Nations. The district serves approximately 4,100 students across nineteen schools, including three alternate programs and a trades learning centre. The Board of Education Office is based in Terrace, with communities such as Kitimat, Hazelton, and Stewart within the district.

About the role

This is a continuing, full-time (1.00 FTE) position at Cassie Hall Elementary School in Terrace, BC, starting September 1, 2026. The role focuses on teaching First Nations Language and Culture, contributing to a learning environment that honours and respects Indigenous culture, diversity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Teach First Nations Language and Culture to students at all grade levels.
• Develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with academic, social, and emotional learning difficulties.
• Work collaboratively with staff to support the goals and strategies outlined in the school and district framework for enhanced learning.
• Apply strong classroom management skills and relate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
• Integrate the learning standards, curricular competencies, and core competencies of the revised BC Curriculum.

Requirements

• Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligibility to obtain one).
• Experience teaching students at all grade levels.
• Working knowledge of the revised BC Curriculum.
• Ability to work as part of a team and develop individualized learning plans.
• Strong classroom management skills and ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
• Commitment to the goals and strategies of the school and district framework.
• Legal eligibility to work in Canada.

Pay

• Salary range: $63,513 – $117,454 (based on 1.00 FTE, previous experience, and TQS Category placement), as per the collective agreement.
• Relocation allowance: $1,000 – $5,000 for teachers from other areas (conditions may apply).
• Recruitment and Retention allowance: $3,500 for all teachers (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on FTE).
• Isolation Allowance for remote communities:
  • Hazelton: $1,287
  • Kitwanga: $1,528
  • Stewart: $4,824
  (Paid over 10 months of the school year).
