2028-2029 Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging Fellow
Job Summary
This appointment is in the 2028‑2029 Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging Fellowship Program, providing subspecialty training in cardiac CT, cardiac MRI, and vascular CT/MR angiography, including congenital heart disease imaging and 4D flow MRI. The fellowship has two components: advanced clinical (and research) training in cardiovascular CT and MRI, and independent clinical service for the Department of Radiology at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics and other UW Radiology sites. Fellows receive additional compensation for independent clinical services through the UW Medical Foundation.
Key Responsibilities
- Cardiac CT: Interpret coronary CT angiography (including plaque assessment, calcium scoring, CT‑derived fractional flow reserve, functional and perfusion CT) and perform structural heart imaging for TAVR, transcatheter mitral/tricuspid interventions, left atrial appendage occlusion, and electrophysiology planning.
- Cardiac MRI: Interpret and protocol cardiac MRI for cardiomyopathy, myocarditis, ischemic heart disease, myocardial viability, arrhythmogenic/infiltrative disease, valvular assessment, and cardiac masses; include parametric mapping (T1, T2, T2*, extracellular volume) and stress perfusion imaging.
- Vascular CT and MR: Interpret thoracic and abdominal aortic, pulmonary arterial, carotid, renal, mesenteric, and peripheral CT/MR angiography; evaluate pre‑ and post‑procedural endovascular and open surgical repairs, aortic dissection, aneurysm surveillance, and vasculitis.
- Congenital cardiovascular imaging: Evaluate pediatric and adult congenital heart disease across CT and MRI, supporting pre‑operative planning and long‑term postoperative surveillance in collaboration with congenital cardiology colleagues.
- 4D flow MRI and advanced quantification: Acquire, post‑process, and interpret 4D flow MRI for valvular and shunt quantification, aortic/pulmonary hemodynamics, and congenital physiology; work with wall shear stress, kinetic energy, and other advanced metrics.
- Advanced visualization and emerging technology: Participate in 3D post‑processing, segmentation, cinematic rendering, 3D printing, and virtual/extended reality applications via the RADIUS laboratory; gain exposure to photon‑counting detector CT, deep‑learning reconstruction, and AI‑based quantitative analysis tools.
- Protocoling and scanner‑side training: Protocol and monitor cardiovascular CT and MRI examinations, optimizing contrast, radiation dose, ECG gating, heart‑rate management, and troubleshooting non‑diagnostic studies.
- Multidisciplinary and consultative work: Present at structural heart, congenital heart disease, cardiomyopathy, aortic, and vascular surgery conferences; serve as imaging consultant to referring services.
- Education: Teach residents, medical students, and technologists on service and through departmental didactics.
Required Qualifications
- Four‑year residency in Radiology.
- MD or DO (or equivalent terminal degree) with Wisconsin medical licensure by the start date.
- Board eligible or board certified by the American Board of Radiology by the start date.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated interest in cardiovascular CT and MRI, evidenced by research, presentations, publications, or coursework.
- Experience with cardiovascular post‑processing software and 3D advanced visualization.
Education
- Required: Terminal degree (MD, DO, or equivalent).
Compensation
Starting full‑time salary: $90,508.
Application Process
Current University of Wisconsin employees should log in to Workday and apply through the internal application process. All other applicants must apply via the Jobs at UW portal, uploading a cover letter and resume (both combined into a single attachment). The application window opens September 1 2026; full consideration deadline is December 6 2026, but the posting will remain open until filled. Candidates must be H‑1B or E‑3 eligible if immigration sponsorship is required; the university cannot sponsor J‑1 visas.
