The Northern Texas PGA is one of 41 sections of The PGA of America and has a membership of more than 1,200 PGA of America Golf Professionals. The objective is to promote the enjoyment and involvement in the game of golf and to contribute to its growth by providing services to golf professionals and the golf industry.

About the Internship

This internship provides aspiring future golf industry professionals with hands-on experience in Section operations and Junior Golf programming. Interns will work alongside Northern Texas PGA staff, PGA of America Golf Professionals, host facilities, and industry partners throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Through this experience, interns will learn how a PGA Section supports the game at the local level while building meaningful connections across the golf industry.

The Spring 2027 internship also offers a unique opportunity to gain experience and assist with the 2027 PGA Championship from May 15 - May 24 at Fields Ranch East at PGA Frisco.

Responsibilities

  • Execute pre-tournament operations, such as tournament information collection, golf course marking, selecting hole locations, equipment set-up, and developing operational plans
  • Administer on-site responsibilities, such as player registration, starting, rules officiating, scoring, and awards presentations
  • Execute post-tournament responsibilities, including completing, organizing, and submitting tournament reports, distributing tournament results, and equipment tear-down
  • Effectively communicate with host professional staff, junior golfers, parents, caddies, and spectators
  • Manage tournament equipment by transporting equipment to and from facilities, inventory reporting, and maintenance
  • Provide support to select Section and Foundation operations through various on-site responsibilities
  • Work in-office with NTPGA staff on various projects during scheduled office days (2 office days per month)

Tournament Travel

Tournaments will be located throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, and extensive travel around DFW is required. Interns will be responsible for their own transportation to and from all tournaments and to and from the Northern Texas PGA office.

Tournament Schedule

Interns will be responsible for helping conduct approximately 25-30 Junior Tour tournaments. These tournaments will include formats such as two-day, 36-hole stroke play elite competitions, and single-day, 18-hole, and 9-hole stroke play competitions. Interns will be responsible for conducting these events from start to finish. Additionally, Section Professional tournaments will be conducted during the week.

On average, Spring Interns can expect to work 35-40 hours, including most weekends. To accommodate working weekend days, days off during the week will be granted. Additional tasks and hours can be added for those with special requirements for obtaining school credit.

Requirements

  • Has or is pursuing a college degree (third or fourth-year students preferred)
  • Has automobile access with willingness and ability to travel within the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex
  • Has existing insurance (through school or parents)
  • Exhibits ability to work and communicate effectively in a team-based environment
  • General computer literacy (i.e. Microsoft Office, Smartphone Apps)

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of the game and rules of golf (preferred)
  • Interest in a career in golf or sports administration (preferred)
  • Students enrolled in a PGA Golf Management University program (preferred)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work early mornings
  • Ability to work outside in extreme weather and temperatures
  • Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds, i.e. tents, tables, stakes, and championship signage
  • Ability to safely operate a golf cart
  • Ability to stand and move around on foot for extended periods of time
  • Ability to speak publicly
  • Effectively able to use and operate cell phones, tablets, and hand-held radios

Pay

Interns are compensated at a rate of $11.00 per hour (before taxes). Interns are compensated at a rate of $16.00 per hour if/when they work more than 40 hours per week (before taxes). Full-time interns are guaranteed a minimum of $600 (before taxes) per two-week pay period during the season.

Housing

The Northern Texas PGA does not provide housing of any kind but will assist with locating housing for those unfamiliar with the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Past interns have utilized corporate housing agencies for fully furnished apartment leases, secured house leases through Airbnb, or utilized extended-stay hotels. Those with family or friends in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex are welcome to stay there.

January 12, 2027 - May 24, 2027 (start and end dates are somewhat flexible based on the successful applicant’s school schedule).
