2026-27 Lecturer Pool Department of Geological Sciences
About the role
The Department of Geological Sciences at California State University, Bakersfield accepts applications on an ongoing basis for our pool of part-time lecturers. Appointments are often made with short notice just prior to the start of the semester. Part-time lecturer duties include instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on Departmental needs. Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are made by the Department Chair in consultation with the Dean.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate geoscience and environmental science courses
- Prepare and deliver lectures, laboratories, and related instructional activities
- Grade assignments and provide timely feedback to students
- Hold regular office hours to support student learning
- Participate in weekend field trips and teach in-person laboratories and lectures as needed
Qualifications
- An advanced degree in geoscience or environmental science
Preferred Qualifications
- A PhD in geoscience or environmental science
- For introductory-level courses, a record of successful teaching in geoscience or environmental science at the university level
- For upper division and/or graduate-level courses, a record of successful teaching at the university level in similar courses and/or significant professional experience relevant to the course topic

Pay
Lecturer salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Salary will be pro-rated for part-time assignments. The salary schedule ranges for the Lecturer - Academic Year Classification are as follows:
- Lecturer AY (Range 2) – $5,507 – $6,677
- Lecturer AY (Range 3) – $6,221 – $13,224
- Lecturer AY (Range 4) – $6,825 – $14,523
- Lecturer AY (Range 5) – $8,593 – $15,211
The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.
