2026-27 Lecturer Pool Department of Criminal Justice

California State University, Bakersfield invites applications for a pool of part-time lecturers in the Department of Criminal Justice for the 2026/2027 academic year. Positions may be available for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027, with appointments ranging from one day to a full semester. This pool is used to fill temporary, short-term teaching needs on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year.

About the College and Department

The College of Social Sciences and Education is the largest college at CSUB, with over 4,000 students across ten departments, including Criminal Justice. The Department of Criminal Justice is one of the largest programs in the college, with over 500 majors across the Bakersfield and Antelope Valley campuses. The department employs 8 full-time faculty and 9 part-time lecturers, offering a comprehensive curriculum in policing, corrections, courts, theory, research methods, ethics, correctional counseling, criminal investigation, criminal law, policy, and other critical areas. The program emphasizes student mentorship, professional development, and community engagement through internships, service-learning, and career pathways.

About the Role

Lecturers in this pool may be assigned to teach courses in person at the Bakersfield campus. Appointments are temporary and part-time, with the possibility of rehiring. Applications are valid only for the 2026/2027 academic year and must be resubmitted annually for consideration in subsequent years.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in criminal justice or a closely related field
• Demonstrated subject-matter competence appropriate to the courses being assigned
• Ability to teach in person at the Bakersfield campus

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced graduate education, such as a terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D., or MPA)
• Prior college or university teaching experience
• Relevant professional experience in the field, including supervisory, leadership, or management training
• Experience with Canvas (CSUB’s preferred learning management system)
• Demonstrated ability or experience working with diverse student populations

Pay

Lecturer positions are compensated on a part-time, pro-rated basis according to the following full-time equivalent salary ranges for the academic year:

• Lecturer AY (Range 2): $5,507 – $6,677
• Lecturer AY (Range 3): $6,221 – $13,224
• Lecturer AY (Range 4): $6,825 – $14,523
• Lecturer AY (Range 5): $8,593 – $15,211

Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank, with salaries commensurate with education and experience.
