2026-27 Lecturer Pool Department of Criminal Justice

About the role

The Department of Criminal Justice at California State University Bakersfield accepts applications on an ongoing basis for our pool of part-time lecturers. Applicant pools are used to fill short-term temporary Lecturer positions across our campus with the possibility of rehiring. Appointments may last from one day to a whole semester. This applicant pool may be used to fill vacant positions on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year.

Responsibilities

• Teach in person at the Bakersfield campus
• Offer a comprehensive education in both theory and practice
• Engage with community partners to provide internship and service-learning opportunities
• Mentor and develop students in various criminal justice areas

Requirements

• Master’s degree in criminal justice or a closely related field
• Demonstrated subject-matter competence appropriate to the courses being assigned
• Advanced graduate education, such as a terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., or MPA)
• Prior college or university teaching experience
• Relevant professional experience in the field, including supervisory, leadership, or management training
• Experience with Canvas (CSUB’s preferred learning management system)
• Demonstrated ability or experience working with diverse student populations

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced graduate education, such as a terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., or MPA)

• Relevant professional experience in the field, including supervisory, leadership, or management training

Benefits

This position offers a competitive salary range, commensurate with education and experience, and most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. Full-time equivalent salary ranges are provided above.

Strong communication skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively, and proficiency in using Canvas (CSUB’s preferred learning management system).

Pay

Lecturer. Anticipated salary range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.
