2026-27 AY Lecturer Pool - Criminal Justice and Criminalistics

Cal State LA’s School of Criminal Justice and Criminalistics in the Rongxiang Xu College of Health and Human Services is forming a pool of part-time faculty lecturers for the 2026-27 academic year. Positions will be filled each semester as enrollment, budget, and instructional needs dictate. Initial appointments are typically one semester, occasionally an academic year, and may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance. Appointments are often made just prior to the start of the semester, so availability on short notice may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Appropriate degree from an accredited university:
  • Bachelor’s degree and substantial teaching experience for lower-division courses;
  • Master’s degree for upper-division undergraduate courses;
  • Doctoral degree, or master’s degree and substantial teaching experience for graduate courses.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level.
• Ability to relate well to others within the academic environment and to work effectively in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings.
• Commitment to the academic success of all students and to an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates diversity and differences.
• Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching.
• Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language.
• Participation in School meetings and professional training in innovative pedagogical approaches is mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
• Relevant work experience and training.

Responsibilities

• Instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours.
• Teach undergraduate and possibly graduate courses in criminal justice administration, management, statistics and methods, corrections, juvenile justice, forensic science, and policing.
• Other duties as assigned by the department.
• Course assignments (dates, time, modality) are determined by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.

Pay

Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, based on the following full-time equivalent monthly ranges (effective 7/1/2024):

• Lecturer A/2: $5,507 – $6,677
• Lecturer B/3: $6,221 – $13,224
• Lecturer C/4: $6,825 – $14,523
• Lecturer D/5: $8,593 – $15,211

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range. Most new faculty lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank.

• List of CSU courses previously taught and/or courses/topics qualified to teach in the upcoming academic year.
• Unofficial transcripts (official transcripts required upon hire).

Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in the United States and satisfactory completion of a background check, including a criminal records check. A United States equivalency certification is required for foreign terminal degrees.
