2026-27 AY Lecturer Pool - Criminal Justice
Sacramento State’s Division of Criminal Justice invites applications for its part-time lecturer pool. Instructional needs vary by semester; typical subjects include Introduction to Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement and Investigations, Justice Administration, Criminological Theory and Research Methods, Law and Courts, Corrections, and related fields.
About the role
Part-time lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires are made when instructional needs arise due to changing enrollment patterns, shifts in tenure-track faculty assignments, or other factors. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, though occasionally academic-year appointments are offered. Renewals depend on department needs, funding, and performance. Appointments are often finalized just prior to the start of the semester.
Course assignments—including dates, time, and modality—are determined by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean. All courses are scheduled between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
Responsibilities
- Teach assigned courses
- Prepare course materials and syllabi
- Grade assignments and exams
- Hold regular office hours
- Perform other duties as assigned by the department
Qualifications
Required:
- Master’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, social sciences, law, or a related field
Preferred:
- Doctoral degree in criminal justice, criminology, social sciences, law, or a related field
- Prior or current college-level teaching experience
Pay
Initial rank and salary are based on professional experience and educational background. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges (full-time rate for 15 weighted teaching units) are:
- Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677 per 15 WTUs
- Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224 per 15 WTUs
- Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523 per 15 WTUs
- Lecturer D: $8,593 – $15,211 per 15 WTUs
Compensation is pro-rated based on assigned units. A semester’s pay is distributed in six equal installments. Example: a Lecturer A assigned 3 units at the minimum rate ($5,507) earns $1,101.40 per check, totaling $6,608.40 for the semester.
