About the role

The Teacher - High School supports the instructional process by developing student success in academics (e.g., reading, writing, language, math) or skills (e.g., art, music, physical education). Responsibilities include supervising students, developing lesson plans, delivering instruction, collaborating with staff and administrators, and communicating with parents or guardians about student progress.

Responsibilities

• Administer subject-specific assessments and tests to evaluate student competencies.
• Advise parents/guardians on student progress, expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement.
• Assess student progress and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
• Collaborate with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and meet classroom objectives.
• Counsel students or refer them to appropriate school personnel to address performance, health, or personal issues.
• Demonstrate pedagogical approaches to engage learners and address individual student needs.
• Differentiate classroom instruction to provide individualized learning within established lesson plans.
• Direct student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, or student workers to support classroom programs.
• Instruct students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
• Manage student behavior to ensure a safe and optimal learning environment.
• Monitor students in various educational settings (classroom, campus, field trips) to maintain safety and a positive learning environment.
• Participate in meetings (district, staff, departmental) to convey or gather required information.
• Participate in PLC teams to review data and instructional practices.
• Prepare written materials (grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
• Report health and safety issues to administrators or appropriate agencies (e.g., fights, suspected abuse, substance abuse, inappropriate behaviors).
• Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns or direct to appropriate personnel.
• Respond to inquiries from teachers, parents, or administrators to provide information or direction.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a job-related area.
• Arizona Teaching Certificate with appropriate core content area certification.
• SEI Endorsement required.
• Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Criminal background clearance.

Skills

• Ability to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks, with periodic skill upgrades required.
• Proficiency in applying assessment instruments, operating standard office equipment, and using pertinent software applications.
• Knowledge of curriculum and instructional techniques, including algebra, geometry, and lesson plan requirements.
• Understanding of age-appropriate activities, stages of child development, behavioral management strategies, and assessment techniques.
• Ability to schedule activities, meetings, or events; gather, collate, and classify data; and use job-related equipment.
• Flexibility to work with diverse individuals and data, adapt to changing priorities, and maintain confidentiality.
• Problem-solving skills to analyze issues and create action plans, including independent interpretation of guidelines.
• Ability to establish constructive relationships, work flexible hours, meet deadlines, and collaborate as part of a team.

Work Environment

• Physical demands include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; and fine finger dexterity.
• Job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing.
• Performed under some temperature extremes and conditions with exposure to risk of injury or illness.
