2026-27 AY Lecturer Pool - Psychology

Sacramento State’s Department of Psychology seeks part-time lecturers to join a pool of applicants available to teach undergraduate and graduate courses. The department serves over 1,400 undergraduate majors and 60 graduate students, offering coursework in research methods, quantitative and qualitative analysis, neuroscience, basic and applied psychology (e.g., applied behavior analysis, clinical, cognitive, community, developmental, happiness, industrial-organizational, sensation/perception, and social), and diversity topics including developmental disabilities, aging, gender, sexuality, cross-cultural, and multicultural psychology. The department also offers an undergraduate certificate in behavior analysis and master’s programs in applied behavior analysis, psychological research, and industrial-organizational psychology.

About the role

Lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires from the pool are made when instructional needs arise due to changing enrollment patterns, tenure-track faculty assignments, or other factors. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, though occasionally academic-year appointments are made. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance. Assignments—including course, dates, time, and modality—are determined by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned courses
• Prepare course materials and syllabi
• Grade assignments and exams
• Hold regular office hours
• Perform other duties as assigned by the department

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Psychology or a related field (required)

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Psychology or related field (preferred)
• Teaching experience at the college level, including evidence from past teaching at Sacramento State and/or professional experience as a psychologist relevant to the courses to be taught (preferred)

Pay

Lecturer salaries are based on professional experience and educational background, with most new hires starting at Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges (for a full-time rate of 15 weighted teaching units, or WTUs) are:

• Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677 per 15 WTUs
• Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224 per 15 WTUs
• Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523 per 15 WTUs
• Lecturer D: $8,593 – $15,211 per 15 WTUs

Compensation is pro-rated based on assigned units. For example, a Lecturer A teaching 3 units at the minimum salary would earn $1,101.40 per payment, totaling $6,608.40 for the semester (6 payments).
