2026-27 AY Lecturer Pool - Physics and Astronomy
We are seeking qualified part-time lecturer faculty to primarily teach introductory algebra-based and calculus-based Physics courses and the associated labs, as well as introductory General Education courses in Physics and Astronomy.
About the role
Duties include instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments—including dates, time, and modality—are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean. Part-time lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Appointments are typically for one semester but may occasionally span an academic year. Renewals depend on department needs, funding, and performance. Assignments are often finalized just prior to the start of the semester.
Pay
Initial rank and salary are based on professional experience and educational background. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges (full-time rate for 15 weighted teaching units) are:
- Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677
- Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224
- Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523
- Lecturer D: $8,593 – $15,211
A semester’s compensation consists of six payments of the pro-rated base rate. For example, a Lecturer A assigned 3 units at the minimum salary would earn $1,101.40 per check, totaling $6,608.40 for the semester.
Requirements
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, or a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching Physics and/or Astronomy in a post-secondary setting.
