About the role

The Department of English at Sacramento State seeks candidates for its part-time lecturer pool to teach introductory-level lecture classes in Composition, Composition for Multilingual Writers, Advanced Composition, Linguistics, and Children's Literature. Specialized courses in Upper-division Literature, Creative Writing, or Technical Writing (ENGL 120T) can be taught through a separate specialty lecturer pool.

Responsibilities

  • Instruction in introductory-level English courses
  • Class preparation and grading
  • Office hours
  • Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Rhetoric and Composition, or a related field
  • Or a Bachelor's degree combined with at least five years of teaching or relevant professional experience in one of these fields

Qualifications

Skills

  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to teach a variety of English courses
  • Experience with online and hybrid course delivery

Benefits

Initial appointments are typically for one semester, but occasionally academic year initial appointments are made. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance. Often appointments are made just prior to the start of the semester.

Pay

  • Classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are provided in the 'Required Qualifications' section.

Schedule

Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.
