2026-27 AY Lecturer Pool - Applied and Advanced Studies in Education (AASE)

Cal State LA’s Division of Applied and Advanced Studies in Education (AASE) in the College of Education invites applications for a pool of part-time faculty lecturers for the 2026-2027 academic year. Positions will be filled each semester as instructional needs arise due to enrollment fluctuations, changes in tenure-track faculty assignments, or other operational factors. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, though some may span the full academic year. Appointments may be renewed based on departmental needs, funding, and performance. Many hires occur just prior to the start of the semester, so availability on short notice may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Appropriate degree from an accredited university:
  • Master’s degree for lower- and upper-division undergraduate courses
  • Doctoral degree, or master’s degree plus substantial teaching experience, for graduate courses
• Training, experience, or appropriate credential/equivalent in the area to be taught
• Ability to relate well to others within the academic environment and demonstrated ability/interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural setting
• Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching
• Proficiency in written and oral use of the English language

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment
• Relevant work experience and training
• Willingness to participate in program curricular development and establishing learning goals
• Significant and recent training related to the course of study
• Ability to teach in multiple modalities
• Evidence of successful teaching experience

Responsibilities

• Instruction, class preparation, grading, and holding office hours
• Additional duties as assigned by the department
• Collaboration with faculty to maintain program consistency
• Commitment to the academic success of all students and to an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates diversity and differences
• Effective, respectful, and collaborative engagement in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings

Course assignments—including dates, times, and modality—are determined by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean. In AASE, many courses are offered in the late afternoon and evening, with some daytime options available.

Pay

Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range. Most new faculty lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. Full-time equivalent monthly salary ranges (as of 7/1/2024) are:

• Lecturer A/2: $5,507 – $6,677
• Lecturer B/3: $6,221 – $13,224
• Lecturer C/4: $6,825 – $14,523
• Lecturer D/5: $8,593 – $15,211

The Division of Applied and Advanced Studies in Education (AASE) offers programs leading to credentials, certificates, master’s degrees, and doctoral degrees. Its mission is to prepare professionals serving in urban schools, colleges, universities, and related agencies by promoting knowledge, skills, and dispositions tailored to diverse urban contexts. AASE provides certificates and master’s degrees in Educational Administration, Educational Foundations, Educational Technology (Educational Technology Leadership and E-Learning and New Media Design), and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, as well as the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and general education courses in these disciplines.
