2026-2027 SY - Athletic Coach - Elementary - 5th/6th Volleyball

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalency
• Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department (details)
• Must complete the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association (www.nmact.org)
• Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program
• Previous successful coaching experience in volleyball

Responsibilities

• Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training to achieve individual and team success
• Demonstrate and instruct behaviors that foster socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment
• Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation
• Work with students interested in volleyball, providing practice support and advice for team success during the sports season
• Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport
• Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal

About the Role

The head coach must have substantial knowledge of volleyball's technical aspects and stay current with new theories and procedures in the field. The coach serves as a role model for student athletes through instruction and actions.

This position reports to the athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals. On-site attendance is mandatory.

Work schedule includes evenings and weekends.
