2026-2027 SY - Athletic Coach - 5th/6th Grade Volleyball - Elementary
About the role
To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. The coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in the student athletes. The role involves working with 5th and 6th grade students, providing practice support, and coaching the team during a volleyball season.
Responsibilities
- Organize and supervise a total sports program for 5th/6th grade volleyball.
- Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport.
- Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training.
- Demonstrate behaviors that foster character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride in student athletes.
- Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation.
- Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches as needed.
- Serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions.
- Work evenings and weekends as required for practices and games.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalency.
- Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department.
- Completion of the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association.
- Previous successful coaching experience in volleyball (or major sports).
- Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of volleyball and a willingness to examine new theories and procedures.
Pay
$4,000.00 for the fall sport season.
Schedule
Fall sport season. On-site attendance is mandatory, including evenings and weekends for practices and games.
Reports to: The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.
