Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalency
- Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department (how to apply)
- Completion of the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association (www.nmact.org)
- Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport
- Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and ability to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field
- Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program
- Internal applicants must attach a signed Permission to Coach Form to their application
Responsibilities
- Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training to achieve individual and team success
- Demonstrate and instruct behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes
- Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation
- Work with students interested in sports, providing necessary practice support and advice for team success during the season
- Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport
- Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal
Work Environment
- On-site attendance is mandatory
- Evening and weekend work required
Reports To
The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.
