Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalency
- Athletic Coaching License (7–12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department (how to apply)
- Completion of the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association (www.nmact.org)
Qualifications
- Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program
- Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport
- Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and commitment to staying current with new theories and procedures
- Ability to serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instruction and actions
Responsibilities
- Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training to achieve individual and team success
- Promote socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes
- Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation
- Work with students interested in sports, providing practice support and advice for team success throughout the season
- Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport
- Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and principals
Schedule
Evenings and weekends required; on-site attendance is mandatory.
Reports To
Athletic director, with overall objectives and final evaluation provided in conjunction with the high school principals.
