Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalency
• Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department (how to apply)
• Completion of the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association (www.nmact.org)
• Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport
• Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of basketball
• Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program

Responsibilities

• Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training to achieve individual and team success
• Demonstrate and teach behaviors that foster character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment
• Stay updated on new theories and procedures through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation
• Work with students to provide practice support and guidance for team success
• Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport
• Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and principal
• Serve as a positive role model for student athletes through instructions and actions

Schedule

Evenings and weekends during the sports season

About the Role

This position reports to the athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals. On-site attendance is mandatory. The goal is to develop student athletes both athletically and personally while ensuring a successful sports season.
