Contract Length: Winter Sport

Salary: $2,500.00

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalency
• Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department (how to apply)
• Completion of the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam through the New Mexico Activities Association (www.nmact.org)
• Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (major sports)
• Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program
• Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of basketball
• Ability to examine and implement new theories and procedures pertinent to the field
• Signed Permission to Coach Form (required for internal applicants)

Responsibilities

• Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training to achieve individual and team success
• Demonstrate and teach behaviors that foster socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment
• Enforce rules and regulations of the sport
• Provide practice support and guidance to ensure team success during the sports season
• Upgrade coaching knowledge and skills through clinics, observations, and consultation
• Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and principal
• Serve as a positive role model for student athletes through instruction and actions

Schedule

• Evenings and weekends required
• On-site attendance mandatory

About the Role

This position reports to the athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals. The goal is to work with students interested in sports, ensuring they develop both athletically and personally while competing successfully in a sports season.
