About the role

A substitute teacher enables each child to pursue his or her education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the regular teacher. The substitute carries out the lesson plans of the regular teacher and meets the teaching duties outlined in the policies of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Supports and adheres to the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees and policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
  • Provides instructional reinforcement for individual students or small groups of students
  • Supervises students in the cafeteria, schoolyard, specials, hallways, on field trips, and/or during before and after school programs
  • Attends to students' physical, personal, academic, and emotional needs
  • Performs other duties as directed by the classroom teacher and school administration
  • Uses approved, corrective, and positive discipline procedures in dealing with inappropriate student conduct
  • Collaborates with school personnel to enhance the work environment and support academic programming
  • Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self and others
  • Protects the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization, including client names and information, services rendered, donor names and gifts, investigations, and financial information
  • Adheres to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy
  • Takes a solution-oriented approach in interactions and undertakings, promoting collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year of substituting or teaching experience preferred
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver license, and valid vehicle insurance
  • Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening
  • Must pass Texas DPS Fingerprint-based Applicant Clearinghouse screening
