Position Title: Substitute Contract: None Employment Status: Part-time, On-site Qualifications At least 18 years of ageHigh school diplomaCompleted Background ClearanceRelated experience working in a school or with children preferredAt least a valid Alabama Substitute Teacher License Reports To: Principal Job Goal: To encourage student progress, and manage the learning environment in the absence of the full-time teacher or paraprofessional Job Function And Responsibilities Assume duties of the regular classroom teacher promptly and in accordance with school rulesImplement existing lesson plans in a manner that ensures the integrity of academic time, and motivates students to learn and participateInstruct students regarding a variety of classroom topics/courses of instruction, as determined by the classroom teacher's lesson plansAssign reasonable tasks and homework to students in accordance with the classroom teacher's lesson plansCreate a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the studentsAddress the various learning styles of students accordinglyMaintain classroom control that fosters a safe, positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with i3 Academy policies and all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulationsEnsure adequate supervision of students and classroom environment to assure health, welfare, and safety of studentsTake all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilitiesRemain in classroom and monitor students at all timesEnsure that the students are never left unattended in the classroomReport student injury, accidents, illness, and discipline problems to school personnel immediatelySeek assistance If serious or disruptive student behavior problems occurReport to school office at beginning of school day to pick up required materials and schedule of classes, and at the end of the school day to return materialsFollow sign- in and sign out procedures, as prescribed by the school principalInteract in a cooperative and professional manner with students, parents, and school personnelMaintain student and school personnel confidentialityUse proper discipline techniques so that there is never physical contact with a studentConduct assigned classes at the times scheduledEnforce regulations concerning student conduct and disciplineBe punctual with all dutiesUses computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials as appropriate to supplement presentation of lessonsMaintain current contact information on tile with the Human Resource Department Note: After ten (10) days in the SAME teaching assignment, the role changes into a long-term assignment. From day eleven (11) in the SAME assignment, assuming all responsibilities of the teaching role, until the end of the assignment, the pay shall be doubled that of the daily rate of pay for a substitute teacher. At that point, the job description becomes that of full time teacher including but not limited to the responsibility to develop lesson plans; devise, administer, and grade tests and assignments; participate in parent-teacher conferences; perform assigned duties, and attend school-related functions.
