Location: Peterson Academic Center, Las Vegas

Position: Special Education Generalist – Self-Contained (Middle School/High School, Tier I)

About the Role

This is a full-time, day position within the Exceptional Student Services Department (ESD) at the Peterson Academic Center. The role involves teaching students with diverse learning needs in a self-contained classroom setting.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
• Deliver specialized instruction aligned with Nevada Academic Content Standards (NVACS) and IEP goals.
• Adapt and modify curriculum to meet the unique needs of students in a self-contained environment.
• Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and families to support student success.
• Monitor and document student progress through data collection and assessment tools.
• Maintain a safe, structured, and positive classroom environment.
• Participate in IEP meetings, professional development, and school-based team meetings.
• Comply with federal, state, and district policies related to special education.

Requirements

• Valid Nevada Department of Education license with a Special Education endorsement (or ability to obtain one).
• Experience working with students with disabilities in a self-contained or similar setting.
• Knowledge of IEP development, implementation, and compliance.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to differentiate instruction and use evidence-based strategies for diverse learners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field.
• Demonstrated experience in classroom management and behavior support strategies.
• Familiarity with assistive technology and accommodations for students with disabilities.
