1st Shift CNC Set Up III (Dept. 301)
Milwaukee Valve Company is looking for a CNC Setup III to join our Prairie Du Sac, WI team. Established in 1901, Milwaukee Valve manufactures valves for industries including Industrial, Commercial, Fire Protection, Marine, and dry bulk hauling. Our products have been installed on every U.S. Navy ship built for the last 50 years.
About the role
The CNC Setup III will perform machine setup and operation of various CNC machines, including HMC, VMC, HTL, VTL, Swiss Screw, Multi-Axis lathes, Transfer machines, and Robots. This role requires minimal assistance, with the ability to determine work holding, tool selection, and extensive program editing. The individual will mentor others in machining and possess strong organizational, math, communication, and computer skills. Personal hand tools and measuring instruments are required.
Pay
Starting hourly wage of $30.23. Eligible for a $2,000 sign-on bonus: $1,000 after successful completion of the orientation period and $1,000 after one year of employment.
Schedule
Regularly scheduled hours are 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Overtime may be required, including adjustments to shift start/end times and Saturday work.
Responsibilities
- Perform machine setup and operation of CNC machines (HMC, VMC, HTL, VTL, Swiss Screw, Multi-Axis lathes, Transfer machines, Robots).
- Determine work holding, tool selection, and edit programs with minimal assistance.
- Mentor and train other employees in machining.
- Load/unload parts, change inserts/tooling, adjust wear offsets, and measure parts.
- Maintain coolant levels, lubrication, and cleanliness of machines and work areas.
- Perform tool testing and document results.
- Remove/install tools and fixtures, set tool offsets, and transfer machine programs.
- Establish work offsets, obtain first articles, and set up machines in cells.
- Create general work holding (e.g., soft jaws) and recommend tooling as needed.
- Edit programs extensively and indicate jaws, fixtures, and tooling.
- Generate programs of moderate difficulty and set up first-time runs.
- Perform mathematical calculations (e.g., speed, feed, chip load, angles, ratios).
- Ensure quality by measuring parts, interpreting CMM data, and adjusting processes.
- Meet productivity standards and identify process improvements.
- Use measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height stands, indicators, surface roughness gages).
- Perform first-part and in-process inspections; CMM experience is a plus.
- Read and interpret blueprints, including GD&T and tolerances.
- Use PCs, MS software, ERP systems, and databases proficiently.
- Follow safety and security policies, wear PPE, and report unsafe conditions.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 4 years of related machining experience or equivalent training.
- Ability to read and interpret safety policies, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with all levels of personnel.
- Ability to follow instructions in any form and solve problems effectively.

- Mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, geometry, trigonometry.
- Ability to calculate speeds, feeds, chip loads, angles, ratios, and tapers.
- Proficiency in using measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, indicators, etc.).
- Blueprint reading and GD&T comprehension.
- Basic PC and MS software skills; proficiency with ERP systems and databases.

- Toolbox (roller cabinet).
- Allen wrenches (standard provided).
- Brass hammer (provided).
- Square, screwdrivers, flashlight, calculator, scale, wrenches, pliers.
- 1” micrometer, 6” caliper, 12” caliper, 1” dial indicator with mag base, test indicator(s).
- Recommended: 1-4” micrometer set, depth micrometer set.
- Other tools may be required for proficiency.
