1st Shift 6am-2pm(M-F) --> Welding Lead MI
About the Role
This position reports to the Welding Supervisor and is accountable for all assigned duties with delegated authority commensurate with responsibilities. The Welding Lead supervises the welding team’s work quality, productivity, and attendance, oversees welding area operations, and ensures adherence to company policies and procedures. The role includes covering vacant positions during staffing shortages, safeguarding team operations with minimal downtime, and supporting training, mentoring, and development of welding department employees. The Lead also assists in process improvement projects and enhancements initiated by management.
Responsibilities
- Supervise welding team employees’ work quality, productivity, and attendance.
- Oversee operations of the welding area and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Cover vacant positions during staffing shortages as needed.
- Safeguard team operations to minimize downtime and incidents.
- Train, mentor, and develop welding department employees.
- Assist in process improvement projects and enhancements.
- Meet with the Production Manager and Supervisor daily to review scrap materials.
- Issue welding supplies as needed and delegate authority to welders fairly.
- Allocate personnel to other jobs as required.
- Assume supervisor responsibilities in their absence and coordinate with the Production Manager.
- Pull and weld parts to print or specifications.
- Ensure products are labeled correctly.
- Verify and remove all non-conforming material to designated areas daily.
- Implement corrective actions within the area of responsibility.
- Shut down production for quality or product-related issues when necessary.
- Train new employees in welding and operators on machines (e.g., nut, drill, tap, and press).
- Maintain a neat and clean welding work area.
- Enforce company safety rules and policies.
- Oversee production areas including welding, screw nut machine, screw line, lower press, and paint takeoff line.
- Perform additional duties as assigned or logically inherent to the position.
Requirements
- Solid leadership aptitude and ability to foster a teamwork environment.
- High School diploma or GED certificate.
- Minimum of two years of on-the-job experience.
- Ability to learn the current ERP system.
- Experience mentoring team members positively.
- Must pass company visual and penetration standards as determined by supervision.
- Ability to operate a forklift.
- Welding certification.
- Microsoft Office knowledge and experience (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Understanding of JOST’s Basic Processes.
- Ability to learn company products and quality procedures.
- Good interpersonal and excellent communication skills.
- Capable of working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Highly dependable, motivated, and self-driven with excellent attendance.
- Ability to follow, understand, and strictly abide by Work Instructions (WI).
- High level of attention to detail in all work.
Physical Requirements
Work is performed in a manufacturing setting. The employee is regularly required to walk, stand, see, hear, use hands, reach, stoop, bend, twist, and occasionally lift or move objects weighing between 5 to 51 pounds with or without assistance.
