About the role

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for advocating and supporting adults 22 and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities by empowering them to be as active in their lives as they can. Their support needs include, but are not limited to, household maintenance, meal prep, shopping, bathing, toileting, dressing, teeth brushing, etc., so that they may always look and feel their best.

The DSP may be asked to assist them to their medical appointments, banking, help them become active members of their community, attend outings, administer medications, follow Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans and goals, and follow medical guidelines that are in place.

DSP workers are provided paid New Employee Orientation, paid CPR/First Aid, PABC, Defensive Driving, and Medication Administration Program (MAP), as well as program and person-specific training at the individuals’ home. The DSP must be able to safely evacuate individuals from the home in the event of an emergency. DSP workers must maintain certifications, handle job-related duties in compliance with Agency policies, and follow all DDS regulations/policies.

Responsibilities

  • Advocate and support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Assist with household maintenance, meal preparation, shopping, and personal care (bathing, toileting, dressing, teeth brushing)
  • Accompany individuals to medical appointments and banking
  • Support community integration and attend outings
  • Administer medications and follow Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans, and medical guidelines
  • Safely evacuate individuals in emergencies
  • Maintain certifications and comply with Agency policies and DDS regulations

Requirements

  • 21+ with reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in fluent English
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including holidays, overnights, or double-shifts
  • Commitment to assisting people with varying disabilities to participate fully in their community and lives
  • Proven record of conscientious, responsible behavior (work, volunteer, or school history)
  • Ability to work as a creative, engaged, dedicated member of the team

Pay

$17.50 - $19.00 per hour – Paid training provided by Venture!

Part-time: 29 hours
