About the role

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for advocating and supporting adults 22 and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities by empowering them to be as active in their lives as they can. Support needs include, but are not limited to, household maintenance, meal prep, shopping, bathing, toileting, dressing, teeth brushing, and other personal care tasks to help individuals look and feel their best.

The DSP may assist with medical appointments, banking, community integration, outings, medication administration, and following Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans, goals, and medical guidelines. DSP workers must safely evacuate individuals from the home in an emergency and maintain compliance with Agency policies and DDS regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care assistance (bathing, toileting, dressing, teeth brushing, etc.)
• Assist with household maintenance, meal preparation, and shopping
• Support individuals in attending medical appointments and banking
• Facilitate community integration and participation in outings
• Administer medications and follow Behavior Support Plans and Individual Support Plans
• Adhere to medical guidelines and Agency policies
• Safely evacuate individuals in case of emergencies
• Maintain required certifications and comply with DDS regulations

Training

• Paid New Employee Orientation
• Paid CPR/First Aid certification
• Safety Care training
• Defensive Driving training
• Medication Administration Program (MAP)
• Program and person-specific training at individuals’ homes

Requirements

• 21+ years of age with a reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license
• High School Diploma or GED
• Ability to speak, read, and write fluently in English
• Commitment to assisting individuals with disabilities in full community participation
• Proven record of conscientious, responsible behavior (work, volunteer, or school history)
• Ability to work creatively and collaboratively as part of a team
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including holidays, overnights, or double-shifts

Pay

$17.50–$19 per hour

Schedule

• Part-time: 18 hours
• Sunday: 9:00 AM – 10:00 PM
• Saturday: 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM
