About the role

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for advocating and supporting adults 22 and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities by empowering them to be as active in their lives as they can. Their support needs include, but are not limited to, household maintenance, meal prep, shopping, bathing, toileting, dressing, teeth brushing, etc., so that they may always look and feel their best. The DSP may be asked to assist them to their medical appointments, banking, assist them to become active members of their community, attend outings, administer medications, follow Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans and goals, and to follow medical guidelines that are in place.

The DSP must be able to safely evacuate individuals from the home in the event of an emergency. DSP workers must maintain certifications, handle job-related duties in compliance with Agency policies and follow all DDS regulations/policies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with household maintenance, meal preparation, shopping, bathing, toileting, dressing, and teeth brushing
  • Support individuals to attend medical appointments, banking, and community activities
  • Administer medications as required
  • Follow Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans, and goals
  • Adhere to medical guidelines and safety protocols
  • Safely evacuate individuals from the home during emergencies

Requirements

  • 18+ years of age with reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in fluent English
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including holidays, overnights, or double-shifts

  • Varied interests and personal connections in the local community
  • Proven record of conscientious, responsible behavior (work, volunteer, or school history)
  • Ability to work as a creative, engaged, dedicated member of the team

Training

  • Paid New Employee Orientation
  • Paid CPR/First Aid, Safety Care, Defensive Driving, and Medication Administration Program (MAP) certifications
  • Program and person-specific training at the individuals’ home

Pay

$14.89 – $15.00 per hour

Schedule

  • Sunday: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
  • Monday: 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
  • Tuesday: 2:00 PM – 11:00 PM
  • Wednesday: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
  • Friday: 2:00 PM – 11:00 PM
