About the role
The role involves assisting Solar Technicians in assembling, installing, and maintaining solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. Tasks include measuring, cutting, assembling, and bolting solar modules, and adhering to site assessments and schematics.
Responsibilities
- Use appropriate hand and power tools to install PV systems in compliance with codes and standards.
- Lay-out, assemble, and install solar modules, panels, or support structures as specified.
- Install structural, mechanical, rack systems, and PV panels.
- Lift, carry, and hold building materials, tools, and supplies; clean tools, equipment, material, and work areas.
- Engage with your work team to ensure zero injuries and participate in safety-related processes and programs.
- Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor; participate in investigations.
- Identify and correct safety hazards; use stop work authority if necessary.
- Attend site-specific training and follow outlined procedures.
- Follow established safety rules and regulations; maintain a safe and clean work environment.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Assist in the storage, planning, and layout of materials in accordance with plans and specifications.
- Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and continuous improvement measures.
- Operate construction equipment correctly, maintain it, and complete daily inspections.
- Notify supervisors of any hazards observed and utilize safety stop work authority as needed.
- Perform tasks as directed by journeymen and learn to perform layout independently.
- Complete daily equipment inspections for equipment being used.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience working as a laborer or in any construction craft as a helper.
- Knowledge of assembly, installation, or maintenance of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.
- Ability to understand and follow directions.
- Must have all necessary tools (see Solar Tool List).
- Must be at least 18 years of age.

- NCCER Carpenter
- NCCER Solar Photovoltaic Systems Installer or equivalent Craft Training Program
Skills
- Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers and fractions)
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Safe work practices and hazard identification
- Understanding and following safety rules and regulations
- Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and environments
