About the role

This is a first-level supervisory position overseeing approximately 10–25 non-exempt employees within a single function or work group. The role reports to a second-level manager and involves enforcing policies, contributing to policy development, and executing budgets and schedules. Decisions made in this role directly impact departmental operations, schedules, and performance goals.

Responsibilities

  • Receive daily production schedules from planning and materials from logistics to manufacture, modify, or repair products.
  • Coordinate resources (materials, personnel, equipment) to achieve on-time production of quality products within budget guidelines.
  • Identify and resolve bottlenecks in the production process.
  • Manage controllable operating expenditures such as scrap and consumables.
  • Guide teams to continuously improve processes and production limits.
  • Oversee team performance, motivation, and satisfaction to meet key quality, output, and efficiency targets.
  • Conduct return-to-work interviews and first-level disciplinary hearings in a timely, consistent, and professional manner.
  • Approve overtime schedules and working hours.
  • Participate in the interviewing and hiring process.
  • Review employee performance, recommend compensation adjustments, and address disciplinary actions as needed.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of production processes and the tools/equipment used.
  • Understanding of the business unit and how decisions impact customer satisfaction, product quality, on-time delivery, and profitability.
  • Ability to coordinate diverse resources to meet production quality and quantity metrics.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with internal and external customers.
  • Leadership skills to manage, train, and motivate a diverse team in a dynamic manufacturing environment with tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in PC applications such as Word, Lotus Notes, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Qualifications

  • Four to six years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Educational requirements may vary by geography.

Physical Demands

  • Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with occasional exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, and temperature extremes.
  • Periodic sustained visual concentration on computer monitors or detailed data.
  • May require occasional travel.
  • All duties are carried out within local health and safety guidelines.
