Zoning Planner II
About the role
The City of Fort Worth is seeking a Zoning Planner II to join the Development Services Department's Zoning and Design Review Division. This division oversees various functions including assessment and recommendations for zoning, site plans, plats, annexations, street and alley vacations; tree removal; variances, special exceptions, and waivers; historic preservation; urban design; code amendments to the Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances; Council-initiated zoning and special reports; zoning determinations including legal nonconformity; reasonable accommodations; and collaboration with other city departments on the production of small area and corridor plans.
Responsibilities
- Intake, analysis, preparing staff reports and making presentations of applications for zoning changes, conditional use permits, variances, plats, code amendments and planning policies
- Reviewing site plans, landscape plans, building elevations, plats and annexation petitions
- Researching and assisting in the drafting of code amendments
- Researching prior and existing site conditions to make determinations of nonconforming use status and reasonable accommodation requests
- Assisting the public with information related to development applications
- Making presentations on technical information to various audiences including internal staff, boards and commissions, and neighborhoods
- Attending and preparing materials for public meetings and board meetings
- Performing other related duties as required
Requirements
- Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Planning, Urban Planning or Design, Geographic Information Systems, Architecture, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Historic Preservation, Archaeology or Architectural History, Real Estate Development or related field and two years of experience in planning, urban design or related field
- Two (2) years of experience in planning, urban design, research and statistical analysis, or related field
- Preferred Qualifications: AICP, CNU, and/or ISA certifications; Education or coursework in planning, urban forestry, arboriculture, landscape architecture, environmental planning, or forestry; Prior experience as a planner performing the tasks noted in this job posting; Prior experience reviewing development plans for compliance with Urban Forestry requirements including tree preservation and mitigation standards; One (1) year of experience serving as a team lead or in a supervisory/lead capacity, including coordinating work or providing guidance to staff; Recent experience utilizing GIS to formulate maps and perform data analysis; Recent experience with SketchUp or similar 3D design software and Adobe Creative Suite

Pay
Pay Range: $28.84 - $37.49/hr. | $59,984 - $77,979 annual compensation
Schedule
Workdays & Hours: Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm; Some evening/weekend work required.
