Zone Team Lead - 1st Shift

About the Role

Provide associates with objectives and standards specifying results to be achieved. Provide tools, training, and support as needed. Create a motivating climate supportive of each team member becoming fully competent.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate leadership capabilities and act as a self-starter with willingness to learn and progress within the company.
• Work with little or no supervision, promoting teamwork and effective communication within production and the company.
• Address associate issues and concerns quickly and effectively.
• Adhere to all legal and company policies and procedures.
• Train and mentor new and existing associates within your area of responsibility.
• Maintain continual effective communication with assigned associates.
• Perform performance coaching and counseling to ensure associates meet expectations.
• Assist with on-the-job training of team members.
• Read and interpret written orders, specifications, blueprints, instructions, and labels, including hazardous warnings and cautions.
• Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Productivity

• Effectively use and coordinate resources to accomplish specific goals and outputs while maintaining quality and customer satisfaction.
• Control and reduce truck hours.
• Plan and execute daily work efficiently and effectively.
• Coordinate activities with other plant departments.
• Achieve truck delivery goals: daily, monthly, and on-time delivery.
• Monitor and control inventory levels to ensure appropriate availability and work-in-process levels.

Innovation & Initiative

• Develop creative approaches to safety, personnel, productivity, and quality-related problems.
• Seek and develop new or improved processes to enhance productivity and customer satisfaction.
• Propose and implement solutions to problems as appropriate.

Quality

• Demonstrate commitment to quality and the quality process.
• Complete assignments accurately and thoroughly, meeting or exceeding standards.
• Display a personal quality attitude and leadership.
• Monitor established work procedures and practices; follow specifications and implement changes as required.
• Take an active role in daily truck audits, follow up on issues, and implement corrective actions.
• Monitor quality of trucks in process and in rework; communicate actions required or taken.
• Actively pursue defect reductions and positively impact defect measurements.
• Implement and maintain quality improvement efforts and processes.

Safety

• Lead by example to create and maintain a safe and orderly work environment.
• Enforce and follow safe work practices.
• Aim for zero lost-time injuries and reduce OSHA recordable injuries.
• Ensure compliance with safety policies and safe work practices.
• Maintain consistent daily housekeeping in all areas of responsibility.
• Utilize established programs (e.g., safety meetings) to improve safety performance.
• Display a personal safety attitude and leadership.

Requirements

• Ability to read and interpret work orders.
• Ability to read a tape measure.
• High School Diploma or equivalent GED preferred.
• Availability to work overtime, including Saturdays, if needed.
• Flexibility to work rotating shifts as necessary.
• Ability to stand for 8-10 hours per day and lift up to 35 lbs.
• Understanding of quality policies with a goal of minimum or zero defects per unit.
• Adherence to company safety regulations and ability to train new team members on safety guidelines.
• Active participation and support of Poindexter Production System (PPS), including 5’s, Lean, TPM, and other Continuous Improvement Activities.
• Prior supervisory experience preferred but not required.

Work Environment

This job operates in a manufacturing plant environment. Duties include:

• Regularly talking or hearing.
• Frequent standing (sometimes for extended periods), walking, using hands to handle or feel, and reaching with hands and arms.
• Occasional sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, reaching overhead, or crawling in confined spaces.
• Performing repetitive tasks using hands.
• Climbing ladders and/or working in high places.
• Lifting up to 35 pounds.
