Position Summary
The YouthBuild Construction Trainer will assist the Construction Manager in managing and coordinating construction projects from inception to completion. This role involves collaboration with contractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The YouthBuild Construction Trainer supports the YouthBuild program and YouthBuild participants by coordinating community service projects, teaching the NCCER construction curriculum, and providing hands-on construction training.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Support: Assists the Construction Manager in planning and executing construction projects, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Help prepare and maintain project documentation, including contracts, permits, and change orders.
- Site Coordination: Support on-site project management by coordinating with contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure smooth operations.
- Monitor construction progress and quality, conducting regular site visits to assess work and compliance with safety standards.
- Communication and Reporting: Facilitate communication among project stakeholders, including team members, contractors, and community members. Assist in preparing regular progress reports and updates for internal teams and stakeholders.
- Administrative Tasks: Maintain organized project files and documentation, ensuring easy access to important information. Assist in tracking project budgets, expenses, and invoices to ensure financial accountability.
- Problem-Solving: Identify potential project challenges and collaborate with the Construction Manager to develop solutions. Participate in project meetings, providing input and updates on project status and site conditions.
- Classroom Management & Engagement: Ability to support classroom management and actively engage students in hands-on construction training and learning activities. Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor practical, real-world trade skills. May serve as backup within the department as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a specific construction trade.
- Strong knowledge of construction processes, safety regulations, building codes, carpentry methods, materials, tools, and safety precautions.
- Skilled in reading and interpreting instructions, diagrams, sketches, and blueprints.
- Demonstrated ability to present and teach remodeling and new construction skills, particularly to young adults ages 16–24 disconnected from traditional education and career pathways.
- Bridges patience, enthusiasm, and a supportive, respectful, and professional approach when working with diverse youth, fostering leadership development and positive learning environments.
- Strong organizational, multitasking, communication, and interpersonal skills, with keen attention to detail and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with project management software; excellent verbal, written, and computer skills.
- OSHA certification with First Aid and CPR preferred.
- Ability to pass Motor Vehicle Record and background checks.
Pay
$61,000 – $65,000 annually
