Youth Volleyball Instructor/Coach
Founded in 2006, CAL Sports Academy provides year-round youth sports instruction and development opportunities through classes, training programs, camps, clinics, leagues, and other developmental opportunities. Our mission is to create a positive, organized, and development-focused environment where athletes can improve their skills while building confidence, character, leadership, discipline, teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship.
About the role
As a Youth Volleyball Coach, you will work with athletes ages 6 to 18 and provide structured, engaging, and age-appropriate volleyball instruction. We are looking for coaches who can do more than supervise activities. Successful candidates should be able to teach the game, demonstrate proper technique, organize drills, provide constructive feedback, manage groups effectively, and create an environment where young athletes enjoy learning and improving.
Responsibilities
- Lead organized and engaging youth volleyball classes and training sessions.
- Teach volleyball fundamentals including serving, passing, setting, attacking, blocking, footwork, court movement, communication, and game concepts.
- Prepare lesson plans and drills in advance of assigned programs.
- Adapt instruction for beginner, intermediate, and experienced athletes.
- Provide clear instruction, correction, encouragement, and constructive feedback.
- Keep athletes active, engaged, and appropriately challenged throughout each program.
- Help athletes develop confidence, teamwork, discipline, leadership, sportsmanship, and a stronger understanding of the game.
- Maintain a safe, positive, organized, and encouraging learning environment.
- Set up and break down volleyball equipment before and after programs.
- Communicate professionally with athletes, parents, fellow coaches, and CAL Sports Academy staff.
- Provide appropriate feedback regarding athlete development when requested.
- Support camps, clinics, leagues, training programs, and special events as opportunities become available.
- Arrive prepared and on time for all assigned programs.
- Represent CAL Sports Academy with professionalism, enthusiasm, integrity, and respect.
Requirements
- Previous volleyball playing and/or coaching experience required.
- Strong understanding of volleyball fundamentals and terminology.
- Ability to clearly demonstrate and teach volleyball skills.
- Experience working with children or teenagers.
- Positive, energetic, patient, and encouraging coaching style.
- Dependable, punctual, organized, and professional.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with athletes of different ages and skill levels.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with other CAL Sports Academy coaches and staff.
- Willingness to receive feedback, continue learning, and grow professionally.
- All coaches working with youth athletes must obtain and maintain the required Pennsylvania background clearances, including:
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance
- Pennsylvania Criminal History Record Check
- FBI Fingerprint Background Check, when applicable
- Candidates who do not currently possess the required clearances must be willing and able to obtain them before beginning employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous youth volleyball coaching experience.
- Competitive high school, club, collegiate, or advanced volleyball playing experience.
- Experience independently planning and leading practices, classes, clinics, or training sessions.
- Background in Physical Education, Education, Exercise Science, Recreation, Coaching, or Sports Management.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience communicating with parents and families in a youth sports environment.
Schedule
Our primary coaching opportunities are generally available during the following times:
- Monday through Friday: approximately 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM
- Saturdays: approximately 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, depending on programming and enrollment
Coaches are not required to be available every day. However, we are looking for individuals who can commit to a consistent weekly schedule throughout each program session.
Pay
Compensation is based on coaching experience, playing background, qualifications, teaching ability, responsibilities, and overall fit. Additional earning opportunities may become available through camps, clinics, leagues, private training, and expanded coaching responsibilities.
