About the role
The Youth Sports Programs Aide plans, implements and supervises club members, and evaluates activities and outcomes within a specific program area, supporting our priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character and Citizenship.
Responsibilities
- Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes to include: Promote and stimulate program participation, especially for teens
- Register new members and participate in their club orientation process
- Provide guidance and role modeling to members
- Effectively implement and administer programs, services and activities for drop-in members and visitors
- Plan and lead structured, age-appropriate sports activities and seasonal leagues, including but not limited to organizing practices, schedules, equipment, and game-day logistics, while collaborating with staff and leadership to strengthen and improve sports programming
- Provide positive coaching while ensuring continuous supervision, safety, and behavior management
- Support and represent the Inter-Tribal Sports (ITS) program through coordination and participation
- Communicate effectively with families and support community sports engagement
- Track participation data, registrations, and program outcomes
- Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and others to assist in resolving problems
- Implement special programs such as SMART Moves Program, Teen Dating Violence Program and Bullying Prevention Program which will expose Club kids to various activities designed to help their decision-making and critical-thinking skills, as well as learn how to avoid and/or resist alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and premature sexual activity
- Conduct Arts & Crafts activities including researching ideas, planning, preparing materials, teaching and cleaning up
- Cook and serve USDA snacks and meals which may include preparing, proper storing, serving, cleaning up, completing and maintaining meal forms, scanning and emailing forms at regular intervals
- Aid the Executive Director with Academic Incentive Program by communicating with local schools and teachers to obtain information on members' academic needs
- Ensure a productive work environment by participating in monthly staff meetings
- May participate in special programs and/or events
- May be required to drive Club van
- Ability to work a flexible schedule may be required based on need
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older with a High School diploma or GED certificate
- Experience working with children
- Knowledge of youth development
- Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems
- Ability to interact with the general public
- Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth
- A valid driver's license is required and must be maintained throughout employment
- Current certifications and/or licenses appropriate to the positions required education and profession
- Highly confidential and work as a team with other staff
- Sensitive to client’s needs

- Compliance: Each employee plays a key role in creating a compliance culture at SIHC. Employees are expected to learn and comply with all SIHC policies and procedures. One must have the ability to understand the implications and complexities of all compliance policies. Participation in all compliance training is mandatory, and generally has a heightened awareness of policies and regulations that are specific to one’s department and position. All SIHC employees are expected to report violations or suspected violations of compliance policies or regulations.
- Health must be adequate to perform all duties of the position
- Applicants must complete SIHC Application and Authorization Form, both must be submitted to Human Resources prior to the close date indicated
- INDIAN PREFERENCE: In the filling of any SIHC job vacancy, preference may be given to qualified Native American Indians, pursuant to the Indian Preference Hiring Act, 25 USC 472, unless other laws require the filling of a vacancy without regard to Indian preference (e.g. Public Law (P.L.) 94-437, “Indian Health Care Improvement Act (IHCIA). To receive Indian Tribe ore for any SIHC position, the applicant must be enrolled, or be eligible for enrollment, as an American Indian with their Tribe, or must be certified as an American Indian from the designated Tribal Representative. Applicants claiming Indian preference must attach verification of their claim to the SIHC application, including Certification of form BIA-4432, which is available from the SIHC Human Resources Department. If verification is not or cannot be verified, the applicant will not receive Indian preference for purposes of the interview.
