About the role

The Wyoming Boys' School (WBS) is a secure facility providing adjudicated delinquent males ages 12-21 years with opportunities to make changes in their lives. Staff members provide supportive services focusing on psychological/emotional stability, educational and physical development, and mental health therapies. Programs are specifically designed for youth to learn socially responsible values and life skills, restructure their critical thinking, and prepare for a successful transition back to their families and communities.

Responsibilities

  • Provides for the safety and security of students during awake hours.
  • Maintains a logbook of facility activities.
  • Responds to all emergencies.
  • Manages radio traffic regarding facility events and student movement.
  • Greets guests in a manner that reflects a positive image and with excellent customer service.
  • Frequently transports students to and from appointments and activities.
  • Conducts frequent observation of physical plant structures and perimeter areas.
  • Assists with supervision of off-ground activities.

Qualifications

  • PREFERENCES: Preference may be given to applicants with a high school diploma and one year of work experience with the public or youth. However, anyone interested in an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of youth is encouraged to apply.
  • The Boys' School will provide training and mentorship to ensure that new team members have the resources and knowledge to succeed in this role.

Skills and abilities

  • To assess the grounds and buildings' safety and risk factors.
  • To interact with residents, staff, and the public respectfully and professionally.
  • To de-escalate youth.
  • To safely demonstrate physical and non-physical intervention during crises where residents are hostile, aggressive, out-of-control, and in danger of harming themselves, others, or property.

Education

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma.
  • Experience: 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Youth Services) with acquired knowledge at the level of a(n) Youth Services Aide.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None.
