About the role

At the Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center in Kearney (YRTC‑K), Youth Security Supervisors are the driving force behind transformation — inspiring youth to believe in themselves and the possibilities ahead. You’ll walk alongside male youth ages 14–18 who have been adjudicated by the court, providing structure, mentorship, and compassion to help them develop the skills and mindset needed to become successful, law‑abiding citizens.

YRTC‑K is accredited by the American Correctional Association, owned and operated by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. The facility serves youth committed until age 19 or until they complete programming.

Responsibilities

• Work with and assist Youth Security Supervisors (YSSs) — effective communication via verbal, email, and written forms
• Acquire accurate information for documentation
• Maintain professional work standards while working around multiple supervisors and management teams
• Respect and adhere to confidentiality of youth and staff; gather information while working with management, youth, and video surveillance
• Review phone calls and video surveillance
• Document accurate information in multiple forms as necessary
• Stay motivated and on task
• Computer literate: Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe PDF; willingness to learn database applications for data entry
• Maintain good workspace hygiene — organized, clutter‑free environment
• Stay current on required training
• Serve as a Youth Security Supervisor when needed; meet all YSS staff requirements
• Operate a radio using proper protocol
• Transport youth when necessary
• Follow trained procedures for searching youth and physically intervening when necessary

Requirements / Qualifications

• Coursework, training, or experience in: social work, criminal justice, counseling and guidance, human development and the family, psychology, behavioral health care, education, social/behavioral sciences, nursing/patient care, delinquency prevention, or related area
• Experience leading, coordinating, directing, monitoring, and/or supervising others
• Must be 21 years of age
• Valid driver’s license
• Proficiency in English — ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend effectively

Schedule

• 2 positions: 6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. shift
• 2 positions: 2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. shift
• 2 positions: 10:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. shift

Pay

Hiring rate: $30.680 per hour.
